With the rise in India’s population, the number of unemployed individuals is also increasing rapidly. Many educated young men and women are unable to secure jobs due to a lack of specific skills. However, the Modi government has stepped forward to resolve this issue. During the 2024-25 Union Budget session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a significant announcement. She stated that the central government is set to launch the PM Internship Scheme across the country. Under this scheme, approximately 1 crore youth will be able to undertake skill development internships over the next five years. Additionally, a monthly stipend of 5,000 will be provided to those enrolled in the internship. To learn more about this internship scheme, read this article in full.

What is the PM Internship Scheme?

For those looking to develop their skills, the PM Internship Scheme offers a golden opportunity. In the first phase, over the next two years, 30 lakh youth will be brought under this scheme, and in the second phase, over the following three years, an additional 70 lakh youth will be included. Every intern will receive a monthly stipend of 5,000. But that’s not all! After one year, the government will also provide a lump sum amount of 6,000. Out of the 5,000 monthly stipend, 10% (500) will come from companies’ CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds, while the remaining 4,500 will be provided by the government.

Who is Eligible for the PM Internship Scheme?

Now, the key question is: what educational qualifications are required, and who can participate in this internship? Anyone between the ages of 21 and 24, who has passed 10th grade, can apply for the PM Internship Scheme. However, those whose family members are employed in government jobs, whose annual family income exceeds 8 lakh, or who are already in full-time employment are not eligible to apply for this scheme.

Application Process

Under the PM Internship Scheme, young individuals will have the opportunity to intern at around 500 top companies across the country. As part of their CSR activities, these companies will contribute 10% to this scheme, offering young people one year of work experience. To apply for this scheme, you must first visit the official portal and fill out a form. The portal will go live on October 3, and applications will open on October 12. To apply, you will need an Aadhar card, email ID, mobile number, proof of address, educational qualifications, and a PAN card. After completing the form, your eligibility will determine where you can intern.

This initiative provides a great opportunity for young people to enhance their skills and gain work experience.
