Amy Madigan is experiencing a career renaissance this awards season, and her husband Ed Harris has been by her side every step of the way. The couple, married since 1983, are celebrating Madigan’s first Oscar nomination in four decades for her chilling performance as Aunt Gladys in Weapons.
At 75, Madigan has earned widespread acclaim for her role in the 2025 horror film, which follows a small town grappling with the disappearance of schoolchildren. Her eccentric, supernatural villain quickly became a fan favorite, earning her nominations at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, along with a Critics Choice Award win. Now, she is preparing for the 2026 Academy Awards, where she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival Virtuosos Awards, Madigan shared how Harris and their daughter Lily have been her biggest cheerleaders. “Ed is thrilled and happy, and Lily too. I’ve had a lot of support from my family and friends, which has been really nice,” she said.
Harris, also 75, has expressed his pride publicly. At the Sundance Film Festival, he told reporters: “I’m the husband of an Oscar nominee. I’m very proud of her. I think she blew everybody’s mind with Gladys.”
Madigan revealed that her work on Weapons opened new doors in her career. “I’m talking to a few more people, which is very nice,” she said, hinting at upcoming opportunities. Harris recalled how she would send him photos from the Atlanta set, leaving him intrigued by her transformation into Aunt Gladys.
Despite the hectic pace of awards season, Madigan said she is “hanging in there” thanks to her family’s encouragement. The couple’s decades-long marriage has been a source of strength, with Madigan noting: “We just love each other and we work really hard at that and in our work.”
With her Golden Globe nomination—the first in 36 years—and her Oscar nod, Madigan is enjoying a well-deserved spotlight. Harris and their daughter Lily continue to celebrate her achievements, proving that family support remains at the heart of her success. As the Oscars approach, Madigan’s performance in Weapons stands as one of the season’s most talked-about roles, and her journey highlights the enduring power of resilience, talent, and love.
