The 2026 Golden Globes will air January 11 on CBS, hosted by Nikki Glaser
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are celebrating another major awards milestone as both actresses landed repeat Golden Globe nominations for their performances in Wicked: For Good. The musical sequel picked up five nominations overall for the 2026 ceremony, strengthening its presence in this year’s awards race despite a notable category omission.
Grande earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role as Glinda, marking her second consecutive Golden Globe nod for the same character. The singer-turned-actress shared her reaction on social media, calling the recognition a “tremendous honour.”
In an Instagram Story, Grande wrote that she was “so moved and grateful” and admitted she was “blindsided” by the nomination. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, she added that being nominated twice for portraying the same role felt “extraordinary” and described the moment as a “remarkable privilege.”
Cynthia Erivo, nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her portrayal of Elphaba, shared her excitement from the rehearsal room of her current stage project, Dracula.
Posting on Instagram, Erivo described the nomination as “lovely” and said it was “the cherry on top” of her long creative journey with the iconic character. She also offered warm congratulations to Grande, calling her co-star her “sweet sister,” and thanked the Golden Globes for the continued recognition.
While Wicked: For Good earned strong support across multiple categories, it was notably absent from the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy field, a category where large-scale musicals often perform well.
However, the film did land a nomination in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, placing it alongside blockbuster titles such as Avatar: The Way of Water and Zootopia 2. Two original songs from the film, “The In Between” and “No Place Like Home,” also received nominations, reinforcing the movie’s musical impact.
The repeat acting nominations highlight the continued momentum of the Wicked film franchise within Hollywood’s awards conversation. For Grande, the recognition further solidifies her transition into high-profile acting, while Erivo’s nod adds to her growing list of major awards honors.
The film’s presence in the box office category also underscores its commercial strength, even as it competes against some of the industry’s biggest franchises.
The 2026 Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 11 and air live on CBS, with comedian Nikki Glaser set to host. Fans of Wicked will be watching closely to see whether Grande and Erivo can turn their repeat nominations into Golden Globe wins on one of Hollywood’s biggest nights.
