Bad Bunny made history at Super Bowl LX, becoming the first artist to perform an entire halftime show in Spanish. His 14-minute set at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, was a vibrant tribute to Puerto Rico and Latin America, blending cultural pride with a call for unity.
The performance opened with Bad Bunny emerging from a sugarcane field, symbolizing his island roots. The stage transformed into a Latin landscape, complete with a nail salon, bar, and his iconic casita — a traditional Puerto Rican-style home. Celebrities including Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, Karol G, Jessica Alba, and Lady Gaga appeared throughout the show, dancing and celebrating alongside him.
While the set was performed entirely in Spanish, Bad Bunny delivered one line in English: “God bless America.” He then listed nations across Central, South, and North America as dancers carried their flags. Behind them, a billboard read: “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”
The show ended with Bad Bunny holding a football emblazoned with the slogan: “Together, We Are America.”
The performance featured symbolic moments, including Bad Bunny climbing an electricity pylon — a nod to Puerto Rico’s devastated infrastructure after Hurricane Maria — and handing a Grammy award to a child while his acceptance speech played on a small television. A staged wedding among Latino dancers highlighted themes of family and community. His outfit also carried meaning: a beige sweater with the number 64, referencing the official death toll from Hurricane Maria, which many believe understated the true scale of the tragedy.
Lady Gaga joined with a salsa-inspired version of Die With A Smile, while Puerto Rican icon Ricky Martin performed Lo Que Le Pasó A Hawaii, warning against cultural erasure. Together, the guests reinforced the show’s celebration of Latin identity.
Though Bad Bunny avoided direct criticism of the U.S. administration, former President Donald Trump blasted the performance on Truth Social, calling it “one of the worst, EVER.” Meanwhile, Turning Point USA hosted an alternative “All-American Halftime Show” headlined by Kid Rock.
Bad Bunny’s set was more than entertainment — it was a cultural statement. By performing entirely in Spanish, he showcased Latin pride on America’s biggest stage, reminding millions that unity and love transcend language.
