Two of the U.K.’s brightest rising stars are set to take center stage at one of the film industry’s most anticipated events. David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood will host the announcement of the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards nominations, bringing their charisma and star power to the British Academy’s headquarters at 195 Piccadilly in London.
The nominees will be revealed on January 27 at 12:00 p.m. U.K. time (4:00 a.m. PT). The announcement will be livestreamed on BAFTA’s official YouTube and X channels, ensuring fans worldwide can tune in to see which films and stars make the cut. This year’s BAFTA race is already heating up. Paul Thomas Anderson’s biting satire One Battle After Another leads the longlists with a record 16 nods, followed by Hamnet and Sinners with 14 each. Marty Supreme secured 13, while Bugonia and Frankenstein earned 12 apiece.
Neither Jonsson nor Lou Wood are strangers to BAFTA recognition. Lou Wood, who rose to fame in Netflix’s Sex Education, won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Comedy Performance and was nominated for the Rising Star Award in 2023. Her career has continued to soar, with recent acclaim for The White Lotus season three and her current role in Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopic. Jonsson, meanwhile, is the reigning BAFTA Rising Star winner, taking the honor in 2025 after standout performances in Alien: Romulus and Rye Lane. He has since appeared in The Long Walk and Wasteman, the latter earning a place on the BAFTA longlist for Outstanding Debut. Jonsson will soon portray Sammy Davis Jr. in Scandalous!, directed by Colman Domingo and co‑starring Sydney Sweeney.
While most categories remain under wraps until January 27, the Rising Star Award nominees were revealed earlier this month. The lineup includes Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Miles Caton (Sinners), Archie Madekwe (Lurker), Robert Aramayo (I Swear), and Posy Sterling (Lollipop).
The second round of BAFTA voting closes on January 20. Following the nominations announcement, the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on February 22 at London’s Royal Festival Hall, hosted by Alan Cumming. With Jonsson and Lou Wood leading the nominations reveal, anticipation is building for what promises to be a thrilling awards season. Their involvement underscores BAFTA’s commitment to spotlighting emerging talent while celebrating the best in global cinema.
