The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that Beyoncé and Nicole Kidman will co-chair this year’s Met Gala, alongside tennis legend Venus Williams and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The star-studded fundraiser will take place on May 4 in New York City, with the theme Fashion is Art.
The gala will support the Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, Costume Art, which will debut in The Met’s new 12,000-square-foot Condé M. Nast Galleries adjacent to the Great Hall. The exhibition will run from May 10 through January 10, 2027.
Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute, explained the vision behind the exhibition: “Rather than prioritizing fashion’s visuality, which often comes at the expense of the corporeal, Costume Art privileges its materiality and the indivisible connection between our bodies and the clothes we wear.”
Beyoncé, known for her groundbreaking style and artistry, will bring her global influence to the event. Nicole Kidman, celebrated for her elegance and red-carpet presence, adds Hollywood glamour. Venus Williams, a fashion-forward athlete, and Anna Wintour, the long-time architect of the Met Gala, round out the powerhouse lineup of co-chairs.
Jeff and Lauren Sanchez Bezos will serve as honorary chairs, sponsoring both the benefit and the exhibition. Their involvement underscores the gala’s continued role as one of the most significant cultural and philanthropic events in the fashion calendar.
Bolton emphasized that the opening of the new galleries marks a turning point for the Costume Institute. “It acknowledges the critical role that fashion plays not only within art history but also within contemporary culture,” he said. With Beyoncé, Kidman, Williams, and Wintour leading the charge, the 2026 Met Gala promises to be a dazzling celebration of fashion’s artistry and cultural impact.
