Boy George Urges Chappell Roan to “Own Your Fame” After Paparazzi Clash

Pop icon Boy George has weighed in on Chappell Roan’s viral confrontation with photographers, offering advice on how to navigate the pressures of fame.

Viral Moment Sparks Debate

Roan, best known for her breakout hit Pink Pony Club, went viral this week after a video showed her asking photographers to stop following and “harassing” her. The clip, filmed in Paris, quickly spread across social media, sparking conversations about celebrity boundaries and paparazzi culture.

Boy George’s Perspective

Responding online, Boy George shared his own experience with fame. “I have been doing this fame thing for a while and you learn slowly and painfully that you don’t get a free pass once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise,” he wrote.

He acknowledged the frustration of paparazzi attention but urged Roan to embrace her visibility: “The trick is to own your fame. Yes, it’s annoying at times but so is being ignored and told you’re a has‑been. Life is always now and I think Chappell looks great but cheer up girl. The world is at your feet — stop kicking it!”

Roan’s History of Setting Boundaries

This is not the first time Roan has confronted photographers. At the Netflix premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, she demanded an apology from a photographer she said had disrespected her at the Grammys. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she scolded another photographer who shouted obscenities on the red carpet.

Roan has also spoken openly about her need to set boundaries with fans. On Instagram, she described experiencing “predatory behavior disguised as superfan behavior” and emphasized that women in the industry “don’t owe you anything.”

Fame, Boundaries, and Kindness

Boy George’s comments highlight the tension between celebrity visibility and personal privacy. While Roan continues to assert her boundaries, his advice suggests that kindness and resilience may be tools for navigating the spotlight. As Roan’s career rises, her clashes with paparazzi reflect a broader conversation about how fame intersects with respect, consent, and personal space.
