BritBox has acquired the upcoming psychological drama Gone for audiences in the U.S. and Canada. The six-part series comes from George Kay, the acclaimed creator behind Hijack, Lupin, and The Long Shadow.
The series stars David Morrissey (Sherwood) as Michael, a local headmaster whose life spirals after his wife Sarah Polly disappears. Eve Myles (Keeping Faith) plays Detective Annie Cassidy, who begins a tense psychological duel with Michael as she chips away at his carefully composed exterior. The cast also includes Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham, and Clare Higgins.
At its core, Gone explores trauma, trust, and the hidden influence of elite institutions. Inspired partly by the book To Hunt a Killer and the real-world work of former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay and ITV crime correspondent Robert Murphy, the series promises a gripping blend of fiction and reality.
The show, produced by New Pictures in association with Kay’s Observatory Pictures, has already secured multiple international pre-sales. Deals include NRK in Norway, Stan in Australia, and Sky New Zealand, which will air the series on Three and stream it on ThreeNow. BBC Studios has also picked up rights for its drama streamer BBC First and BBC Player across Asia.
Directed by Richard Laxton (Mrs Wilson, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe), Gone is set to premiere in the U.K. on ITV this spring before expanding globally. Kay’s reputation for crafting tense, character-driven thrillers ensures anticipation is high among fans of his previous work.
With its compelling cast, international distribution, and Kay’s proven storytelling, Gone is positioned as one of 2026’s most anticipated dramas. For viewers in the U.S. and Canada, BritBox will be the exclusive home of this psychological thriller.
