The music world is mourning the loss of Camryn Magness, the gifted pop singer who opened for One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Cody Simpson, and other major acts during her early rise to fame. She died at just 26 years old, her family confirmed in an emotional announcement posted on social media.
No official cause of death has been publicly released as of Thursday morning. Her family has requested privacy as they navigate the tragedy, promising to share updates when appropriate.
Magness’ loved ones announced her death in a heartfelt tribute, calling her a “radiant force” with a voice and spirit that touched audiences around the world.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn,” the family wrote. “Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness… Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl.”
The message urged fans to keep Magness’ friends and relatives in prayer, adding, “Camryn will live on in our hearts forever.”
Her obituary later revealed that Magness was engaged to her longtime partner, Christian Name, at the time of her passing. The couple shared two beloved dogs, Brooklyn and Zeppelin.
Camryn began her career unusually early. At only eight years old, she mailed a demo tape to her future agent, Jeff Pringle. A year later, she collaborated with the band Blessed by a Broken Heart on the track “Wait and See,” which went on to appear in the 2011 family film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.
Her early promise quickly caught the attention of major performers. By her early teens, Magness was touring internationally and performing in front of tens of thousands.
Magness’ biggest breakout moment came when she was invited to join One Direction as an opening act during their Up All Night Tour. The opportunity introduced her to a massive global audience and transformed her budding career.
“Going into the tour, I was an unknown artist,” she told Teen Vogue. “It’s a great feeling to walk around and have someone come up to me and say, ‘Hey, you did so well!’”
She later told CBS News that performing before One Direction’s devoted fanbase was “amazing,” adding that she gained “a lot of new fans and friends.”
Magness went on to open for Fifth Harmony across Europe and continued releasing new music, including her 2021 album Love Maps.
Her family’s obituary described Magness as “a gifted performer” whose art reflected “her heart, her courage, and her endless creativity.” Whether onstage or in intimate settings, she shared her music generously and authentically.
As the investigation into her death continues, tributes from fans and fellow artists continue to flood social platforms, underscoring the impact Magness made during her short but meaningful life.
