Camryn Magness, Singer Who Toured with One Direction, Dies at 26

Singer Camryn Magness, who rose to early fame opening for global acts like One Direction, Cody Simpson, and Fifth Harmony, has died at age 26. The rising pop talent was involved in a fatal electric scooter accident in Florida on December 5, according to People. Her family confirmed her passing through a heartfelt tribute posted across her official social media pages on Wednesday.

Magness’ death has stunned fans around the world, many of whom watched her musical journey begin when she was just a child posting homemade singing videos on YouTube.

Family Confirms Heartbreaking Loss

In the emotional statement shared online, her loved ones remembered Magness as a bright, fearless creative force whose artistry and joy left a permanent mark.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, joy, and bright spirit touched so many,” the tribute read. “Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness. In the quiet between waves, her memory will surface—bright, bold, unforgotten.”

They added, “Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl. You are deeply loved and forever cherished. Please keep her family and friends in prayer as they navigate this difficult time.”

A Childhood Star with a Global Stage

Born in Denver, Magness gained widespread attention as a young performer uploading covers online. By age nine, she had moved to Los Angeles and signed her first record deal. Her debut single, “Wait and See,” arrived in 2010 and was later featured in the 2011 film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.

Magness’ career accelerated quickly. Before releasing further music, she joined Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance on their Waiting 4U Tour. She later toured with Allstar Weekend, building a devoted fanbase.

Her second single, “Set the Night on Fire,” became a breakthrough moment—charting in the U.S. Top 40 and propelling her onto even larger stages.

Touring with One Direction and Rising Stardom

In 2012, Magness joined One Direction on their debut Up All Night Tour, performing in front of sold-out arenas across the country and debuting her single “Now or Never.”

She reflected on that experience in a Teen Vogue interview at age 13, saying, “Going into the tour, I was an unknown artist. It’s a great feeling to walk around and have someone come up to me and say, ‘Hey, you did so well!’ It was really exciting for me.”

The boy band invited her back the following year for their 2013 European tour. In 2016, she opened for Fifth Harmony during their European run, solidifying her presence as a rising pop performer.

Magness released her most recent project, the album Love Maps, in 2021.

She is survived by her fiancé, Christian Name, and their two dogs, Brooklyn and Zeppelin.
