Cody Simpson’s New Mission Shocks Fans: From Pop Star to Lifesaving Advocate

Cody Simpson is making waves once again — but this time, not in the recording studio or competitive swimming lanes. The Australian singer, elite athlete, and longtime surf lifesaving volunteer has stepped into a new role as the face of Surf Life Saving Australia’s Beach Passport campaign, aimed at educating the public on essential beach safety ahead of the summer season.

The campaign encourages Australians to complete the Beach Passport, a free 15-minute online training resource that teaches water safety skills and lifesaving knowledge crucial for avoiding emergencies in the ocean. In its first year, the initiative saw more than 37,000 beachgoers take part, a figure organizers hope to surpass as temperatures rise and surf crowds increase.

Simpson Says Water Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility

Simpson grew up on Queensland’s Gold Coast, one of the busiest beach regions in the country, and says the ocean feels like his second home. In a statement supporting the campaign, he highlighted the critical role surf lifesavers play in keeping the public safe.

“Growing up on the Gold Coast, the beach has always been my second home and surf lifesavers are the unsung heroes who keep us all safe,” Simpson said.
“The Beach Passport only takes 15 minutes and will give you the knowledge that could save your life or someone else’s this summer season.”

His involvement aligns with his longtime dedication to surf lifesaving; Simpson has been a volunteer with Northcliffe Surf Club since childhood, and the cause remains close to his heart.

Supporting a Lifesaving Legacy

Surf Life Saving Australia is the largest volunteer movement of its kind in the world, with over 198,000 members and more than 300 affiliated clubs across the country. Since its founding in 1907, lifesavers have rescued more than 715,000 people, reinforcing the importance of water education and safety training.

The Beach Passport initiative launched in partnership with Qantas, making water safety training more accessible to families and tourists ahead of peak beach season.

Beyond The Beach: Simpson’s Next Chapter

Simpson, who previously reached the Billboard 200 top 10 with his album Surfers Paradise, continues to balance athletics, music, writing, fashion, and now philanthropy. The 27-year-old recently published his first children’s book, The Sea in Me, following his close bid for Olympic qualification in 2024.

While he missed an opportunity to swim individual events at the Paris Games, Simpson remains a decorated athlete, earning gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He has also launched the eco-conscious fashion label Prince Neptune, with sustainability at its core.

With “exciting new projects” underway, Simpson continues to redefine what it means to be a multitalented public figure — using his influence not only to entertain but also to save lives.
