Classic TV Dramas Copper and Cedar Cove Find New Homes

The vintage drama Copper has secured a new streaming home in the U.K. British broadcaster UKTV has acquired the series for its platform U. Set in 1860s New York City, the show was created by Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana, and Will Rokos. It originally aired on BBC America, where it became the network’s first original drama.

The series follows police detective Kevin Corcoran, played by Tom Weston-Jones, who returns from war to find his wife missing and his daughter dead. Balancing his work on criminal cases with his personal quest for answers, Corcoran’s story captivated audiences across two seasons and 23 episodes. Although there was talk of a Copper movie after the show ended, it never materialized.

Cedar Cove Expands in Europe

Meanwhile, Cedar Cove, starring Andie MacDowell, has found new audiences in Central and Eastern Europe. The drama, based on Debbie Macomber’s bestselling novels, was originally produced for Hallmark Channel in the U.S. It recently topped 400,000 views on YouTube in German-speaking territories. Commercial broadcaster TV2 has now picked up the series for Hungary, expanding its reach across Europe. The show, produced by Unity Pictures, continues to resonate with viewers thanks to its heartfelt storytelling and small-town charm.

Beta Film Seals Deals

Germany-based Beta Film, which distributes both Copper and Cedar Cove internationally, confirmed the new agreements. The company also announced several other European deals for its catalog dramas. Among them, the German crime TV movie series Big Ben has been acquired by Prima TV for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Additionally, the long-running alpine drama The Call of the Mountain has been picked up by JOJ in Slovakia and AXN White for pay TV in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Enduring Appeal of Classic Dramas

The renewed interest in Copper and Cedar Cove highlights the enduring appeal of scripted dramas with strong characters and compelling narratives. While streaming platforms continue to push new content, these shows demonstrate that classic series can still find fresh audiences worldwide.
