Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley has officially signed on to star in Killa Bee, a new true-story drama about British ICU nurse Bryony Tyrell, who transformed into one of the UK’s top MMA fighters. The announcement was made on Monday, November 3, 2025, ahead of the American Film Market (AFM). The movie will be produced by Knockout Productions and directed by Kenton Oxley, with filming scheduled to begin in Q2 2026.
Killa Bee tells the inspiring real-life journey of Bryony Tyrell, a Southampton-based ICU nurse and mother of two, who juggled hospital shifts under the NHS while training as a mixed martial artist at night.
Tyrell’s background in molecular biology and nursing didn’t stop her from pursuing her passion for combat sports — from kickboxing in university to earning a black belt and ultimately going pro in MMA.
The film, penned by Ruth Sewell, explores her dual life balancing caregiving and cage fighting, capturing the resilience and determination that earned Tyrell the nickname “Killa Bee.”
Ridley shared her excitement, stating:
“Bryony’s story is one of extraordinary courage and resilience. I was deeply moved by her emotional and empowering journey. I can’t wait to bring her spirit to the screen.”
Producers Lucinda Thakrar, Mark Vennis, and Michael Foster confirmed that Bryony Tyrell is personally involved in the project’s development, ensuring authenticity. Director Kenton Oxley, a longtime friend of Tyrell, brings a personal perspective rooted in trust and creative loyalty.
Capture, the film’s sales company, will handle world sales at the American Film Market. The announcement adds to Ridley’s expanding post-Star Wars filmography following The Cleaner and The Last Resort.
Industry analysts note that Killa Bee could mark a new direction for Ridley, showcasing her in a grounded, physically demanding role with emotional depth — distinct from her sci-fi fame.
International sales manager Nathan Wang praised the collaboration:
“It’s our first time partnering with Daisy Ridley, and we cannot wait to see her bring Bryony’s grit, vulnerability, and inspirational drive to the screen.”
Filming for Killa Bee is slated to begin in mid-2026, with casting for supporting roles expected early next year.
Capture’s recent slate includes Riff Raff, Above & Below, and Spring Breakers 2: Salvation Mountain. With strong AFM buzz, Killa Bee could become one of the most anticipated sports dramas of 2026.
