Diego Barajas Anchors Temple’s Offensive Line as Owls Surge Toward Bowl Eligibility

Temple football is closing in on bowl eligibility — and a major reason is the dominance of its offensive line. Led by right tackle Diego Barajas, the Owls have found consistency and confidence up front under first-year head coach K.C. Keeler.

The team is 4-3 and averaging 33 points per game, a dramatic improvement from previous seasons. That surge begins in the trenches, where Barajas has emerged as a steady, unbreakable force.

Barajas Emerges as a Cornerstone of Stability

According to Pro Football Focus, Barajas has not allowed a single sack this season and has surrendered only one pressure across three conference games. His reliability has transformed Temple’s offensive rhythm, giving quarterbacks crucial time and opening bigger lanes for running backs.

This marks a sharp contrast from last year, when protection issues plagued the Owls. By settling full-time at right tackle — instead of rotating positions — Barajas has elevated both his own play and the performance of the entire line.

Keeler Praises Line Consistency and Focus

Head coach K.C. Keeler credits the offensive line’s cohesion for the offensive turnaround.

“The same five starters have played together all season,” Keeler said. “That kind of continuity builds trust. Diego’s leadership on the edge sets the tone for everyone else.”

Analysts from the American Athletic Conference have echoed similar praise, citing Barajas as one of the top-performing tackles in the league.

Strong Foundation Fuels Temple’s Turnaround

Temple’s improvement has already produced a two-win jump from last season. With six games remaining, the Owls need only two more victories to secure their first bowl appearance since 2019.

Barajas’ dependability has been a central reason for the offensive surge, helping Temple average its highest scoring output in over five years. The offensive line’s communication and stability have made them a top storyline in the conference.

What’s Next: Bowl Push and Conference Challenges

Temple faces a challenging stretch against top AAC opponents, but the team’s newfound balance and protection up front give them momentum. Maintaining health and consistency across the line will be vital as the Owls aim to clinch bowl eligibility in November.
