One Awards Battle After Another as A-Listers Face Off at the 2026 Golden Globes

Hollywood’s biggest stars will gather this weekend for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, a ceremony widely seen as an early indicator of how the Oscars race may unfold. The Golden Globes return to the Beverly Hilton, bringing together top contenders from film and television after one of the most competitive awards seasons in recent memory.

A Star-Heavy Field of Nominees

This year’s film nominees read like a who’s who of Hollywood. Acting contenders include Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Michael B. Jordan, and Ariana Grande. On the television side, nominees such as Helen Mirren, Jenna Ortega, Jude Law, and Glen Powell highlight a year dominated by prestige performances on the small screen.

‘One Battle After Another’ Emerges as Frontrunner

The clear leader heading into the ceremony is One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film leads with nine nominations and has already swept major critics’ honors, including top prizes from New York and Los Angeles critics circles, the National Board of Review, the Gotham Awards, and the Critics Choice Awards. Starring DiCaprio as an aging revolutionary haunted by his past, the $130 million production has been praised for its ambition and emotional complexity. Despite Anderson’s reputation, he has yet to win a Golden Globe or Oscar, making this year a potential breakthrough moment for the filmmaker.

Acting Races Tighten Ahead of Oscar Season

While DiCaprio earned his 15th Golden Globe nomination, the best actor in a comedy or musical category is widely expected to go to Chalamet for his performance in Marty Supreme. The energetic ping-pong caper has enjoyed strong box office results and an aggressive awards campaign, helping Chalamet emerge as a major contender. Another near-lock is Jessie Buckley, who is favored to win for her role in Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao. Buckley’s emotionally resonant performance has earned near-universal praise and follows her Critics Choice win last weekend.

‘Sinners’ and a Potential Historic Win

Also in contention is Sinners, the genre-bending blockbuster directed by Ryan Coogler. With seven nominations and massive box office success, the film could see Jordan become one of the few Black actors to win best actor in a drama, while Coogler could make history as the first Black director to win in his category.

Nikki Glaser Returns as Host

The ceremony will once again be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, returning for a second consecutive year. Known for her sharp roasts, Glaser has already teased a carefully balanced monologue as she prepares for what is often called Hollywood’s most unpredictable awards night. With Oscar nominations set to be announced on January 22, Sunday’s Golden Globes will offer the clearest snapshot yet of who is gaining momentum—and who may fall behind—in the race to cinema’s highest honors.
