Hulu is expanding the world of The Handmaid’s Tale with its upcoming spin-off series, The Testaments, set to premiere on April 8, 2026. The drama continues Margaret Atwood’s dystopian vision, shifting focus to a new generation living under Gilead’s authoritarian rule.
The series centers on Agnes, a dutiful and pious teen raised within Gilead, and Daisy, a newcomer from beyond its borders. Their paths converge inside Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school, a brutal institution designed to mold young women into obedient wives.
As the two navigate the school’s rigid hierarchy, their bond becomes a catalyst for change—challenging their past, present, and future in a society built on control and divine justification.
The ensemble cast features Ann Dowd, reprising her role as Aunt Lydia, alongside Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien.
The series is helmed by longtime Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller, with Mike Barker serving as executive producer and directing the first three episodes.
The original series ran for six seasons from 2017 to 2025, earning critical acclaim and multiple Emmy Awards. Its exploration of power, gender, and resistance made it one of Hulu’s defining dramas. The Testaments aims to build on that legacy while introducing fresh perspectives from Atwood’s sequel novel.
With its premiere just months away, The Testaments is positioned as Hulu’s next prestige drama. Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale will be watching closely to see how the spin-off expands Gilead’s mythology and whether it can capture the same cultural resonance as its predecessor.
