Pixar has officially released the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, giving fans their first glimpse of the long-awaited sequel. The teaser, unveiled on November 11, 2025, introduces a new character named Lilypad, a smart tablet toy voiced by Greta Lee.
The film — set for theatrical release on June 19, 2026 — teases a bold new chapter in the beloved franchise, focusing on a “Toys vs. Tech” storyline that challenges the toys’ place in a digital world.
The teaser opens with Bonnie unboxing Lilypad, an AI-powered toy tablet that speaks, learns, and plays games. Her sleek design stands in sharp contrast to the handmade toys like Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Forky, who watch in awe as Lilypad powers on.
Set to INXS’s “Never Tear Us Apart,” the clip captures both humor and nostalgia. Pixar describes the upcoming film as “a hilarious and poignant journey into how our favorite legacy toys confront a changing world.”
The movie brings back Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), and Joan Cusack (Jessie), alongside newcomers Conan O’Brien as “Smarty Pants” and Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl. Directors Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris are leading the project.
In a recent interview, Tim Allen teased an emotional reunion between Woody and Buzz, noting that “there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyears.”
Pixar’s creative heads say the story balances humor and emotion while addressing technology’s growing influence. Harris commented, “Lilypad represents a modern reality — the evolution of play and the fading magic of imagination.”
Early fan reactions on social media have been overwhelmingly positive, with viewers calling the teaser “nostalgic yet forward-looking.”
Analysts predict Toy Story 5 could be both a sequel and a soft reboot, appealing to Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences. By mixing nostalgia with relevant digital-age themes, Pixar aims to reconnect older fans while attracting a new generation raised on smart devices.
The franchise, which has earned over $3.3 billion globally, could mark Pixar’s return to box-office dominance following its streaming-heavy years.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, with more footage expected in early 2026. Marketing campaigns will reportedly focus on Lilypad’s introduction and the emotional reunion of Woody and Buzz.
Pixar is also preparing cross-platform tie-ins, including interactive online content and limited-edition collectible toys.
