Fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s sci-fi classic will soon have to look elsewhere to stream it. Timecop is scheduled to leave Netflix on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix.
Released in 1994, Timecop was directed by Peter Hyams from a script by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden, adapted from their three-part comic series Time Cop: A Man Out of Time published by Dark Horse Comics in 1992.
The film stars Van Damme as Max Walker, a Time Enforcement Commission officer tasked with preventing illegal time travel. The story follows Walker as he uncovers a corrupt senator’s plot to manipulate the past for personal gain.
Alongside Van Damme, the cast includes Mia Sara, Ron Silver, Bruce McGill, Gloria Reuben, Scott Lawrence, and Scott Bellis. Notably, Sam Raimi served as one of the producers, adding further credibility to the project.
While Timecop received mixed reviews—holding a 43% critic score and 39% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes—it was a commercial success, earning nearly $102 million worldwide. At the time, it was Van Damme’s highest-grossing film.
The movie’s popularity led to a novelization by S.D. Perry, a Super Nintendo video game, a nine-episode ABC television series (1997–1998), and a direct-to-DVD sequel in 2003 titled Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision.
In 2013, Universal Pictures announced plans for a reboot, though the project never moved forward.
With Timecop leaving Netflix, fans may need to turn to other platforms or physical media to revisit the cult favorite. While a reboot remains stalled, the film’s enduring popularity ensures it will continue to be remembered as one of Van Damme’s most successful ventures.
