Laura Stylez is opening up about why Ebro in the Morning stopped broadcasting from Hot 97’s studio prior to the show’s cancellation. After a fan criticized the hosts for “mailing it in” by switching to virtual recordings, Stylez responded directly, emphasizing that the broadcasts were still live — just not from the station.
Her explanation comes days after the long-running morning show was officially canceled, ending a 12-year run on the iconic New York hip-hop station.
Stylez revealed that the decision to stop recording in-studio stemmed from concerns about the building’s environment. She cited issues such as “roaches and homeless people sleeping in the hallways,” noting that the conditions made the team uncomfortable.
While no formal complaints have been filed against Hot 97’s current facility, the station’s proximity to a transitional housing shelter has reportedly contributed to the challenges Stylez described.
Her comments shed light on a behind-the-scenes shift that fans had questioned for months.
The explanation follows Ebro Darden’s announcement on social media, where he confirmed the show’s cancellation with a brief message: “It’s done. More to come. #EbroInTheMorning.”
During an Instagram Live session, Ebro suggested that his outspoken progressive views may have played a role in the decision, saying he felt it was time to “step aside.”
The cancellation marks the end of a major chapter for the trio, who became staples of New York radio and influential voices in hip-hop culture.
In an emotional Instagram post, Stylez thanked listeners and colleagues, writing, “We had the best time… the most beautiful listeners and got to work with legends I love.” She highlighted the personal and professional milestones she achieved during her time at Hot 97, saying she “lived many of [her] dreams.”
Despite the show’s end, Stylez reassured fans that she, Ebro, and Peter Rosenberg are far from done. Their new project, The Ebro Laura Rosenberg Show, is already in development and expected to debut soon.
Ebro in the Morning premiered in 2012, marking Ebro Darden’s return to the morning slot after previously hosting from 2004 to 2007. Over the years, the show became known for its candid interviews, cultural commentary, and unfiltered discussions on hip-hop, politics, and social issues.
Outside of radio, Ebro continues to serve as Apple Music’s Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B, further cementing his influence in the industry.
With the original show now officially concluded, fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of The Ebro Laura Rosenberg Show. The trio promises to bring the same energy, chemistry, and cultural insight that made their previous program a staple of New York radio — now with a fresh format and new platform.
