Leona Lewis has reached a major milestone this holiday season as her festive hit “One More Sleep” has been officially named the most-streamed British Christmas song of the 21st century. According to new data from the Official Charts Company, the beloved track has amassed over 190 million streams in the UK since its release in 2013, securing its position as the leading modern festive anthem.
Originally peaking at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, “One More Sleep” has grown into a seasonal favorite, enjoyed annually by millions as December approaches. Its warm, nostalgic sound and uplifting tone have helped it outshine a number of contemporary releases and establish itself as a staple of holiday playlists across the country.
Following Lewis on the list is Coldplay with their reflective single “Christmas Lights”, taking second place. Lily Allen’s emotional cover of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know”, made famous by its inclusion in a John Lewis Christmas advert, comes in at third.
In fourth position is “Merry Christmas”, the hit collaboration between Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John, which became an instant seasonal classic upon release. Alexandra Burke’s “Hallelujah” rounds out the top five, combining strong streaming numbers with huge physical sales—making it the biggest Christmas song of the 21st century overall, when both metrics are considered.
Official Charts Chief Executive Martin Talbot praised the rise of modern holiday hits alongside older classics, noting how difficult it is for new music to break into the UK’s traditional seasonal charts, which historically favor legendary Christmas songs from the 1960s through the 1980s.
“It is great to see modern classics joining the festive hall of fame—with Leona Lewis’s ‘One More Sleep’ the runaway leader as the biggest new British Christmas cracker of them all,” Talbot said.
The Darkness – “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)”
Sam Smith – “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
Jess Glynne – “This Christmas”
George Ezra – “Come On Home For Christmas”
Sam Ryder – “You’re Christmas To Me”
As the festive chart battle heats up, interest is rising around who might claim the 2025 UK Christmas No. 1. Early contenders include Taylor Swift, TV personality Denise Welch, and Tom Fletcher, whose song “One of Us” was written for the upcoming production Paddington: The Musical.
Leona Lewis, who previously topped the Christmas chart in 2006 with “A Moment Like This”, continues to influence the seasonal music landscape and remains one of Britain’s most beloved modern vocalists.
