Luka Doncic Slams NBA Cup Court After 43-Point Performance

Luka Doncic raised concerns about the safety of the NBA Cup court after a standout performance in the Los Angeles Lakers’ arena. The Dallas Mavericks star described the surface as “slippery” and “dangerous,” urging the league to address the issue following his team’s 135-118 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Doncic’s Dominant Performance

Doncic scored 43 points, added 13 assists, and grabbed nine rebounds, narrowly missing his 10th career 40-point triple-double. His leadership was evident throughout the game, especially during a tense fourth-quarter confrontation.

Lakers’ Unity on Display

The clash escalated when Kris Dunn knocked Doncic to the ground. Teammate Jaxson Hayes immediately stepped in, earning a technical foul. Doncic later promised to cover Hayes’ fine, praising the Lakers’ unity and saying, “Thanks for having my back.”

Court Safety Concerns

Doncic criticized the special NBA Cup court, noting frequent slips and calling it hazardous. “Adjust the courts, please,” he remarked, while still applauding the Cup format, now in its third year.

Player concerns about Cup courts are not new. In 2023, Jaylen Brown reported a groin injury sustained on Toronto’s Cup court, highlighting ongoing safety issues.

Heated Late-Game Exchange

The game’s intensity peaked when Dunn was ejected after two technical fouls following the altercation with Doncic. The incident underscored the high stakes of the Cup competition and the camaraderie within the Lakers squad.

Lakers Secure Quarterfinal Spot

With the win, the Lakers advanced to the NBA Cup quarterfinals, continuing their strong tournament run. Doncic, who has played in similar Cup formats in Spain, expressed excitement about progressing beyond the group stage.

The victory also came with a financial bonus for players, which Doncic humorously acknowledged, noting the impact even alongside his $165 million contract.
