Madelyn Cline is stepping into one of her most high-profile projects yet, starring opposite Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Marc Webb’s upcoming action-thriller Day Drinker. In a recent interview, the 27-year-old actress shared her excitement about working with two of Hollywood’s most celebrated talents, calling the experience “really emotionally intense.”
Cline revealed that early feedback on the film has been overwhelmingly positive, fueling her anticipation for audiences to see the finished product.
The actress spoke candidly about the opportunity to observe Depp and Cruz on set, describing it as invaluable to her growth. While Day Drinker is rooted in crime-thriller territory, Cline emphasized that the film also explores a more imaginative, layered narrative space.
Cline also reflected on the personal challenges of her profession. Following her breakout role in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), she admitted that certain performances require deep immersion into complex emotional states. This intensity, she explained, can sometimes lead to a sense of disassociation from her own identity after filming.
Earlier this year, Cline starred in The Map That Leads to You, portraying Heather—a character she described as reflecting her “introverted self.” She contrasted Heather with Danica, her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer, noting that Danica was more challenging due to the campy tone of the narrative.
Heather, by contrast, resonated with her real-life experiences. Cline shared that she finds comfort in her current phase of life—spending time at her parents’ home, cooking, and enjoying quiet moments with her dog.
As Cline continues to build her career, she remains mindful of maintaining balance between professional demands and personal grounding. Her reflections highlight how her characters often embody different aspects of herself, blending her Los Angeles lifestyle with her quieter, introspective side.
With Day Drinker on the horizon, Cline’s collaboration with Depp and Cruz marks a pivotal moment in her career. As anticipation builds, the actress is poised to further establish herself as one of Hollywood’s rising stars, navigating both the intensity of her craft and the importance of personal reflection.
