Meghan Markle is officially returning to the screen with a cameo role in the upcoming Amazon MGM comedy Close Personal Friends, Variety has confirmed. The film, directed by Jason Orley, stars Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, and Henry Golding, and is currently shooting around Los Angeles. Markle’s appearance marks her first acting role since leaving Suits in 2017. The story follows a regular couple who befriends a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara, leading to awkward and comedic consequences.
This marks a new chapter for Markle, who has focused on producing through Archewell Productions in recent years. Her return to acting has drawn attention across entertainment circles.
Close Personal Friends is helmed by director Jason Orley, with a screenplay by Isaac Aptaker. The project reunites Orley, Aptaker, and producer Elizabeth Berger, who previously collaborated on I Want You Back.
The ensemble cast includes Melissa Villaseñor, Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Patti Harrison, Jack Shalloo, and Dustin Demri-Burns. Markle’s cameo role has been kept under wraps, but sources say she appeared relaxed and happy on set.
Speaking to Page Six, Markle said, “It’s a new chapter, right? I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”
Industry insiders view her return as a strategic move amid Archewell’s renewed Netflix deal. Her previous work includes executive producing Live to Lead, Polo, and her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.
Markle’s cameo signals a shift from behind-the-scenes production to on-screen presence. While her role is brief, it repositions her within Hollywood’s creative landscape.
The move may also influence Archewell’s future content strategy, blending personal branding with scripted entertainment.
Filming for Close Personal Friends is ongoing in Los Angeles, with a projected release in mid-2026. Markle is expected to continue producing content under Archewell, with additional Netflix projects in development.
Her return to acting may open doors for future roles, though no further casting announcements have been made.
