Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, made a surprise red carpet appearance in Beverly Hills on Thursday, March 19. The 44-year-old joined close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen at the Alliance for Children’s Rights 34th Annual Champions for Children event, held at the Beverly Wilshire.
The outing marked Meghan’s first public appearance since reports surfaced alleging tension between the Sussexes and Netflix. Smiling alongside Zajfen, Meghan appeared unfazed by the speculation, focusing instead on her advocacy for children’s causes.
Earlier this week, Variety claimed Netflix executives were “blindsided” by the couple’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview and Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare. The report suggested these projects complicated the release of their six-part Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan in December 2022.
However, representatives for Meghan and Harry quickly denied the claims, stating: “Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood.”
Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria also dismissed the speculation during the “Next on Netflix” event on March 18. She told attendees: “Don’t believe whatever you read.” Bajaria emphasized that the company continues to work with the couple, with projects currently in development.
“Deals come and go all the time,” she added, noting that the scrutiny surrounding Harry and Meghan’s partnership is far greater than for other Netflix collaborations. “I guess there’s no juicy story there,” Bajaria concluded.
Meghan’s appearance alongside Zajfen highlights her ongoing commitment to children’s rights. Zajfen, co-founder of Alliance of Moms, previously praised Meghan for her support at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala in 2024, calling her dedication “truly inspiring.”
The Duchess’s presence at the Champions for Children event reinforces her role as a global advocate, balancing her philanthropic work with ongoing media projects.
Despite persistent rumors, Meghan and Harry remain aligned with Netflix, while continuing to pursue independent initiatives through their Archewell Foundation. Their docuseries offered an intimate look at their relationship, wedding, and decision to step back from royal duties. With new projects reportedly in development, Meghan’s red carpet return signals resilience and focus on her causes, even as speculation swirls around her professional partnerships.
