Michael B. Jordan Named Entertainer of the Year at NAACP Image Awards

Michael B. Jordan capped off a remarkable awards season by winning Entertainer of the Year at the 57th NAACP Image Awards. The ceremony, held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, honored achievements in film, television, music, and literature, celebrating excellence among people of color across more than 80 categories.

A Tribute to Chadwick Boseman

Accepting the award, Jordan dedicated the honor to his late Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020. “I gotta dedicate this award to Chadwick Boseman,” Jordan said. “Our time on this planet is short. I just want to be here and be present with you guys as much as possible.” His heartfelt words drew emotional applause from the audience.

Film Highlights

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners dominated the film categories, winning Outstanding Motion Picture and 12 awards overall. Jordan also won Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in the film. Cynthia Erivo earned Outstanding Actress for Wicked: For Good, while Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku picked up supporting honors for Sinners.

Television Winners

On the TV side, Abbott Elementary continued its awards streak, winning Outstanding Comedy Series and earning Quinta Brunson the award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Cedric the Entertainer won Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for The Neighbourhood. In drama, Reasonable Doubt took home Outstanding Drama Series, with Sterling K. Brown (Paradise) and Angela Bassett (9-1-1) winning acting honors.

Music Victories

Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar were the big winners in music. Cardi won Outstanding Female Artist for Am I the Drama?, while Lamar earned Outstanding Male Artist for Luther.

A Celebration of Excellence

Hosted by comedian Deon Cole, the two-hour live broadcast followed four nights of virtual presentations. The NAACP Image Awards once again highlighted the breadth of talent across entertainment, with Jordan’s Entertainer of the Year win serving as the night’s emotional centerpiece.
