Miley Cyrus has officially confirmed that she is engaged to musician Maxx Morando, sharing the news publicly during an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday. The 33-year-old singer and songwriter revealed the milestone moment while discussing her personal and creative life, calling the proposal an emotional and unexpected surprise.
Cyrus and Morando, who have been dating for four years, got engaged while traveling together in Asia. The couple reportedly moved in together in 2024, according to People, and have kept much of their relationship private despite public appearances at award shows and industry events.
During the interview, Miley explained why the moment was so meaningful:
“My life has been perfectly aligned with the release of Avatar, my personal life — those two things kind of, you could say, marrying each other and harmonizing with one another.”
Morando proposed during a private trip, and Cyrus admitted she was genuinely caught off guard.
“I am not easy to surprise, because I love to control every situation,” she said. “I had completely surrendered, and I’m telling you I was so, so, so surprised.”
Rumors of their engagement had started swirling after Miley appeared at the Avatar 3 premiere wearing a sparkling ring, which immediately captured public attention.
Cyrus is currently celebrating both personal and artistic milestones. She recently released “Dream as One,” an original track for Avatar: Fire and Ash, further marking her return to the forefront of pop music and film soundtracks.
The singer noted that the themes of love and connection in the Avatar franchise mirrored the transformation happening in her own life.
Cyrus has attended multiple high-profile events this year, including the 2024 Grammy Awards, the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, and the Golden Globe Awards in January, often accompanied by Morando.
Maxx Morando, 26, is a musician and drummer known for his work with the band Liily and previously with The Regrettes. He and Cyrus were first linked romantically in late 2021.
The couple has maintained a relatively private dynamic, though public appearances and social media glimpses have shown strong support for one another’s careers.
Cyrus was previously engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth, whom she married in December 2018 before divorcing the following year. Since then, she has spoken candidly about growth, independence, and the meaning of long-term partnership — themes reflected strongly in her latest interview.
While the couple has not yet announced a wedding date or future plans, the announcement has sparked congratulations from fans and celebrities across social platforms. Cyrus closed her GMA remarks by describing the moment as peaceful, aligned, and transformative.
