Inside the Oscars Nominees Luncheon: A Celebration Without Losers

The Oscars nominees luncheon returned to the Beverly Hilton with its signature mix of glamour, camaraderie, and relief. Unlike the ceremony itself, this is the one event where every nominee’s name is called, ensuring no one leaves disappointed.

A Star-Studded Gathering

Nearly all of the 2026 nominees attended, with notable absences from Sean Penn and Renate Reinsve. Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, Michael B. Jordan, Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, and Leonardo DiCaprio were among the bold-faced names posing for the traditional class photo. The ballroom buzzed with handshakes, hugs, and selfies as nominees mingled freely.

International Diversity

Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor emphasized the global reach of this year’s awards. She noted that ballots came from 29 countries and regions, with every category featuring international representation. A record 76 women were nominated, and the new casting category was highlighted as the first addition since 2001.

Memorable Moments

Wagner Moura was seen with Telluride Film Festival chief Julie Huntsinger before joining Elle Fanning. Benicio Del Toro embraced Josh Safdie and later chatted with Sirât director Oliver Laxe. Jessie Buckley hugged fellow Best Actress nominee Rose Byrne, while Ethan Hawke gave Michael B. Jordan an extended embrace. Guillermo del Toro received a warm welcome from Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler, underscoring the collegial spirit of the event.

Advice for Winners

Taylor urged nominees to prepare heartfelt acceptance speeches, avoid paper notes, and focus on meaning rather than exhaustive thank-yous. Lou Diamond Phillips then took on the daunting task of announcing all 200-plus nominees, flawlessly pronouncing each name.

A Celebration of Cinema

The luncheon’s seating arrangement intentionally mixed nominees across films, encouraging new connections. From Jacob Elordi’s flashbulb-filled arrival to Kate Hudson’s early call to the stage, the event captured the joy of recognition without competition. With the Oscars ceremony set for March 15, the luncheon served as a reminder that, at least for one afternoon, “everyone’s a winner.”
