Patrick Dempsey has shared a poignant update about his former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Eric Dane, who is currently battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The actor revealed that it was “virtually impossible” to include Dane in his new Fox thriller series Memory of a Killer due to the progression of the disease.

Dane, 53, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. But I was happy to see that he was here in Toronto working on another medical drama.” Dempsey praised Dane’s courage, describing him as “a wonderful human being” with intelligence and humor.
