When and Where to Stream Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s Meta Comedy Anaconda

Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s meta-comedy Anaconda has been one of the most talked-about releases of the holiday season. After opening in theaters on December 25, the film is now preparing to slither onto digital platforms, giving fans another chance to experience its quirky humor and chaotic energy.

Box Office and Reception

Despite mixed reviews from critics, Anaconda managed to pull in $122 million worldwide against a $45 million budget. The film currently holds a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, but audiences have been far more forgiving, boosting it to a 76% Popcornmeter rating. That audience enthusiasm has helped the project avoid disaster and maintain momentum heading into its digital release.

Streaming Release Date

According to industry sources, Sony is expected to launch Anaconda on VOD and digital platforms beginning January 27, 2026. While the studio has not officially confirmed the date, preorders are already live on Prime Video for $24.99. Fans eager to revisit the film—or catch it for the first time—will soon be able to stream it from home.

The Story

Directed by Tom Gormican, the film follows best friends Griff and Doug, played by Rudd and Black, who decide to remake their favorite cult classic, Anaconda. What begins as a midlife crisis project quickly spirals into chaos when life imitates art. The duo heads into the Amazon jungle to shoot their film, only to encounter a real, bloodthirsty anaconda.

The official synopsis teases a blend of comedy and danger: “Best friends Griff and Doug have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favourite movie, Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they assemble a crew and head deep into the jungles of the Amazon to start filming. However, life soon imitates art when a gigantic anaconda with a thirst for blood starts hunting them down.”

Meta Humor Meets Cult Classic

The film plays with nostalgia for the original 1997 Anaconda while poking fun at Hollywood reboots. Rudd and Black’s chemistry drives the comedy, with self-aware jokes about filmmaking, aging, and survival. While critics were divided on whether the humor landed, audiences embraced the absurdity, making it a cult favorite in its own right.

What’s Next

With its digital release imminent, Anaconda is expected to find a second life on streaming platforms. Fans who missed the theatrical run will have the chance to join in on the laughs, while those who enjoyed it in cinemas can revisit the outrageous adventure from the comfort of home.
