Peruvian culinary drama Mistura has secured international distribution deals following its successful theatrical run in Latin America. Outsider Pictures has acquired rights for North America, while Unannounced Film Company will handle the U.K. release. Both distributors plan limited theatrical runs this spring, with Outsider Pictures targeting April 24.
Written and directed by Ricardo de Montreuil (My Brother’s Wife, Máncora), Mistura is set in 1960s Lima. The film follows Norma (Barbara Mori), whose life collapses after her husband (Christian Meier) leaves her. Shunned by Lima’s elite, she reinvents herself by opening a restaurant in her grand home, embracing Peru’s rich culinary traditions and forging bonds with communities she once overlooked. The film reunites de Montreuil with Mori and Meier, who previously starred in his 2005 romantic drama My Brother’s Wife.
Released by Cinecolor, Mistura enjoyed a remarkable 10-week theatrical run in Peru — nearly triple the average lifespan of an independent release. The film drew more than 130,000 admissions, becoming the third-highest-grossing local production of the year and the top-earning Peruvian drama. It also performed well during a limited release in Colombia.
Produced by Seine Pictures’ Ivan Orlic (Pelé: Birth of a Legend, The Kitchen), Mistura premiered internationally at California’s Mill Valley Film Festival. It has since screened at more than two dozen festivals, including the Hamptons, Lima, and Morelia (FICM).
Orlic praised the film’s reception:
“We couldn’t have asked for more committed distribution partners in the U.S. and the U.K. This is not just a culinary period piece, but also an homage to the Peruvian people, our traditions, and the spirit of reinvention.”
The deals were negotiated by Orlic for Seine Pictures, Paul Hudson for Outsider Pictures, and Laurence Gornall for Unannounced Company. Ganiden Media represents the film’s international rights. With its blend of culinary heritage and personal reinvention, Mistura is poised to captivate audiences worldwide as it enters its next stage of distribution.
