Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continued their charitable work with a surprise trip to Jordan, joining a delegation from the World Health Organization. The visit highlighted their ongoing commitment to humanitarian causes, which have remained central to their public identity since stepping back from royal duties.
According to reports, the couple took the unusual step of notifying Buckingham Palace about their travel plans in advance. The move was seen as an effort to avoid overlapping with Prince William’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, which could have sparked comparisons or criticism.
Royal expert Jennie Bond noted: “It might have been awkward if this visit had come before William’s trip, but by going afterwards it seems to me that Harry and Meghan are showing they are now sensitive to potential clashes.”
While their coordination with the palace was praised, the trip stirred debate when it was revealed that Harry and Meghan met with the British ambassador to Jordan. Some observers suggested the visit resembled a royal tour, though Bond dismissed the criticism: “If people want to dub it a quasi-royal tour, then frankly that’s their problem.”
Bond added that there is no reason the couple should not meet with officials or visit places if they can “do some good.”
Harry and Meghan have previously faced scrutiny for allegedly overshadowing other royals during international trips. Their decision to coordinate this time suggests a shift toward a more diplomatic and collaborative approach, potentially easing tensions with the royal household.
As the Sussexes continue their humanitarian work, their efforts to align with royal schedules may signal a new phase in their relationship with the monarchy. Whether this approach leads to smoother relations or renewed criticism remains to be seen, but their Jordan trip underscores their ongoing global presence.
