Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King has lost custody of her three children with ex-husband Jim Edmonds after a Child Protective Services investigation. The 41-year-old reality star retains supervised visitation while Edmonds is granted sole physical custody. The children, daughter Aspen, 8, and 7-year-old twins Hart and Hayes, will live primarily with Edmonds, with a formal hearing scheduled in early December to determine if the arrangement becomes permanent. The decision follows a school employee contacting CPS, which prompted the investigation.
The custody shift comes after a recent report from Child Protective Services regarding King. The former couple, who divorced in May 2021 after five years of marriage, has had ongoing disputes, including confrontations with Edmonds’ current wife, Kortnie Edmonds. According to reports, King previously had access to the children but now will only see them under supervised visitation. Jim Edmonds, now married to Kortnie Edmonds since September 2022, will hold primary physical custody.
King’s interactions with law enforcement in prior incidents, including a May 1 altercation at Edmonds’ Missouri home, were part of the public record. Police reports indicate no arrests were made, but tensions were high, with both King and Kortnie involved in disputes.
A representative for Edmonds told People, “As usual, Meghan is telling tales. Her and Jim barely communicate, so if someone is emotionally abusing her, it’s not Jim. And she is not getting full custody; Jim is an active and present father to all his children.”
The statement also noted, “The unfortunate part of all this is that it’s the kids who suffer the most. Jim has always been willing to co-parent in a respectful and productive way; however, Meghan has yet to reciprocate.”
The decision significantly alters family dynamics for the RHOC alum. With supervised visitation, King will have limited unsupervised time with her children, affecting day-to-day parenting routines. For Edmonds, the arrangement solidifies his role as the primary caregiver, while also aiming to minimize conflict exposure for the children. This temporary custody change may influence future legal proceedings, co-parenting strategies, and the public narrative around both parents.
A court hearing in early December will evaluate whether Edmonds retains permanent custody. Until then, Meghan King will maintain supervised visitation rights. Legal analysts suggest the hearing could either formalize the current arrangement or propose new guidelines depending on CPS findings and both parents’ compliance with court requirements.
