Robert Downey Jr. is stepping into his villain era — and fans are loving it. At a recent event at the University of Southern California honoring Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the actor reacted in unforgettable fashion when someone in the crowd yelled “Doctor Doom.”
Downey, who has been synonymous with Tony Stark/Iron Man for nearly two decades, threw up peace signs and a heart gesture to the cheering audience. Laughing and soaking in the moment, he showed that he’s fully embracing his upcoming role as the iconic Marvel villain in Avengers: Doomsday.
The USC gathering celebrated the new Kevin Feige Division of Film & Television Production at the School of Cinematic Arts. Feige, along with Marvel directors Ryan Coogler and Shawn Levy, joined the conversation. Downey’s surprise appearance electrified the crowd, especially when he leaned into his new identity as Doctor Doom.
TikTok footage of the moment quickly went viral, with fans saying Downey embodied Tony Stark’s charisma while teasing his villainous future. One fan captioned their video: “I THINK I JUST WON… LIFE???” The clip highlighted how instantly and playfully Downey responded to the shout.
The film, set to release December 18, 2026, will feature Downey as the central antagonist. While promotional teasers have yet to show him in costume, early artwork has offered glimpses of his transformation into Doctor Doom. The movie will unite Marvel heroes including Thor, Ant-Man, Captain America, Shang-Chi, the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against Downey’s Doom.
Downey’s reaction at USC signals his excitement for the role and the fans’ enthusiasm for seeing him return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — this time as its most formidable villain yet.
