Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to additional charges of rape and sexual assault during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London on Tuesday, February 24. According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the alleged offences took place in 2009 and involved two women.
The English comedian and actor, now 50, has already denied multiple charges. He previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault linked to incidents between 1999 and 2005 in London and Bournemouth. Those charges involve four women and are scheduled to go to trial in June.
“These additional charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police,” the CPS confirmed. A hearing next month will determine whether the new charges will be added to the existing case. Brand’s attorney requested more time to respond to the allegations, citing the need to review the details thoroughly before trial.
Brand was seen arriving at court in a leopard-print shirt, holding a fedora hat, and carrying a Bible marked with post-it notes. His appearance drew media attention as photographers captured the moment outside Southwark Crown Court.
The investigation into Brand began after a collaborative report by Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Sunday Times, and The Times detailed allegations of sexual assault. Following the report, authorities launched a formal inquiry. Brand has consistently denied the claims, stating that his relationships “were absolutely always consensual.”
Brand first rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and television presenter, hosting Big Brother’s Big Mouth and The Russell Brand Show on BBC Radio 2. He later transitioned into Hollywood films, appearing in titles such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. His career has long been marked by both success and controversy.
The trial for the original charges is set for June, with further hearings scheduled to address the new allegations. The case remains ongoing, and Brand continues to maintain his innocence. The outcome of the hearings will determine whether the new charges are consolidated with the existing case.
