Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Join Robert Pattinson in “The Batman Part II”

Hollywood superstar Scarlett Johansson may soon transition from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to DC Studios, as the actress is reportedly in final negotiations to join Robert Pattinson in The Batman Part II. PEOPLE confirmed the discussions, with additional reporting from The Hollywood Reporter indicating that Johansson is close to sealing the deal. Her role in the highly anticipated sequel has not yet been revealed.

Major Franchise Move After Marvel Era

Johansson is no stranger to comic book worlds. She portrayed Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow for more than a decade, beginning with Iron Man 2 (2010) and concluding with her standalone film Black Widow (2021)—where she also served as an executive producer. Now, she may be positioned to bring her star power to the darker, grittier Gotham universe created by director Matt Reeves.

The original The Batman, released in 2022, introduced a grounded and noir-driven interpretation of Bruce Wayne, played by Pattinson, who will return in the lead role. The sequel is expected to continue where the first film left off, though plot details remain tightly guarded.

Casting Shifts and Character Speculation

While Johansson’s potential character is unknown, reports suggest that Zoë Kravitz, who portrayed Selina Kyle/Catwoman, is not expected to return for the sequel. Her absence has sparked speculation about whether Johansson could step into a new major female lead role—including iconic Gotham characters yet to appear in Reeves’ universe.

The film also previously featured Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. Farrell reprised his role in HBO Max’s The Penguin series, adding depth to the Reeves-created Batman universe.

Production Timeline and Release Date

Warner Bros. announced that filming on The Batman Part II will begin in spring 2026, with the theatrical release slated for October 1, 2027—more than five years after the first film hit cinemas. Reeves returns as co-writer alongside Mattson Tomlin, ensuring continuity in tone and storytelling.

The project exists outside James Gunn’s new DC Universe and operates within a separate creative lane, similar to standalone Elseworlds storytelling.

Johansson’s Busy Career Schedule

Johansson’s potential casting comes amid a busy period for the Oscar-nominated actress. She recently starred in Jurassic World Rebirth and appeared in The Phoenician Scheme. She also made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great and has several upcoming projects, including Ray Gunn, Paper Tiger, and a new film in The Exorcist universe from director Mike Flanagan.

With anticipation building and star power intensifying, The Batman Part II is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched releases of the decade.
