The Scream franchise has risen from near extinction to box office dominance. After years of uncertainty, Scream 7 has delivered the biggest opening in the series’ history, proving Ghostface is far from finished.
Paramount Pictures’ latest slasher installment earned nearly $100 million worldwide in its debut, including $64.1 million domestically. That figure shattered the previous franchise record set by Scream VI in 2023, which opened at $44.5 million. With momentum on its side, Scream 7 is expected to surpass $150 million globally, making it one of the most profitable entries yet.
The film marks the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, now a mother living quietly in a small town. Her peace is shattered when a new Ghostface targets her daughter, played by Isabel May. Kevin Williamson, the original writer of Scream, stepped behind the camera this time, directing the sequel and reconnecting the series with its roots.
Despite mixed critical reviews, audiences showed up in droves. The appetite for Ghostface remains strong across generations, with fans eager for fresh scares and nostalgic callbacks. The film’s $45 million production budget makes its profitability even more impressive, ensuring Paramount has every reason to keep the franchise alive.
Industry insiders suggest Scream 8 is all but guaranteed. Paramount, facing financial pressures after recent studio acquisitions, will lean on proven franchises. Williamson has already teased that Campbell pitched ideas for the next installment during late-night filming sessions. With fan demand high, the studio has little incentive to slow down.
Future storylines could revisit abandoned Ghostface arcs or introduce new killers tied to Sidney’s legacy. Whether critics embrace the next chapter or not, box office numbers show audiences are invested. Ghostface’s mask isn’t coming off anytime soon.
