Shemar Moore’s S.W.A.T. Exiles Is Darker, Riskier — And Already Shocking Hollywood Buyers

Shemar Moore is keeping fans in the loop about his highly anticipated spinoff series, S.W.A.T. Exiles. The actor, who starred as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson in CBS’s S.W.A.T. from 2017 to 2025, revealed that the new show has already completed a full season order and is currently seeking a streaming platform.

Searching for a Home

Moore confirmed that Sony Pictures Television has screened the series in Los Angeles and London, with over 700 international buyers in attendance. “We’re in the process of trying to find a platform, whether it be Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Max, FX… we don’t know,” Moore said.

A Darker, Grittier Approach

The spinoff introduces a new ensemble cast, including Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, Ronen Rubinstein, and Lenora Crichlow. Familiar faces from the original series, such as Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit, and David Lim, will also appear, alongside guest stars Selma Blair and Jerry O’Connell.

Moore explained that while the DNA of S.W.A.T. remains, Exiles will carve out its own identity. “The show looks different, feels different. It’s grittier, darker, smokier,” he said. Hondo, now exiled from his former team, must lead a new group of Gen Z cadets and mold them into a cohesive unit.

Serialized Storytelling

Unlike the procedural format of S.W.A.T., Exiles will feature serialized storytelling. “There are the bad guys of the day, but there’s also an underlying story that continues episode to episode,” Moore noted. Episodes will run longer, between 53 and 57 minutes, allowing for deeper character development and more immersive action sequences.

Behind the Scenes

The series is helmed by showrunner Jason Ning, with Moore serving as executive producer alongside Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scura, and Jon Cowan. Sony has already invested heavily, funding the production of 10 episodes before securing a distributor.

Moore’s Career Journey

Reflecting on his career, Moore acknowledged the path that led him here. “Without The Young and the Restless, there’s no Criminal Minds. Without Criminal Minds, there’s no S.W.A.T.. And without S.W.A.T., there’s no S.W.A.T. Exiles,” he said.

Fans can expect the same high-octane action that defined the original series, but with a darker edge and more layered storytelling. While a release date has yet to be announced, Moore is confident audiences will embrace this new chapter.
