Sigourney Weaver is once again sparking excitement among Alien fans. While promoting her latest role in Avatar: Fire & Ash, the Oscar‑nominated actress revealed she may not be done playing Ellen Ripley—the character that defined her career and helped shape modern sci‑fi.
In a new interview with Variety, Weaver hinted that a fresh Ripley‑centered project could be on the horizon, reigniting speculation about her long‑awaited return to the franchise.
Weaver confirmed she has read an untitled script written by Walter Hill, a veteran producer of the Alien series. The 50‑page treatment reportedly places Ripley back on LV‑426, the infamous xenomorph‑infested moon central to the franchise’s mythology.
According to Weaver, the story follows Ripley after a period of imprisonment, with society now viewing her as a threat for her past attempts to warn humanity about alien dangers.
“I hope we do it, because I think it will be wonderful,” Weaver said, noting that the project remains in early development but offers a timely narrative about how society treats those who try to protect it.
The timing of Weaver’s comments comes as the Alien universe enjoys a major revival. The recent box‑office success of Alien: Romulus and the strong reception to Noah Hawley’s TV series Alien: Earth have reinvigorated the brand.
Adding to the momentum is the highly anticipated crossover Predator: Badlands, which has fans buzzing about the future of both franchises.
With the universe expanding across film and television, Weaver’s potential return as Ripley feels more plausible than it has in years.
No official greenlight has been announced, but Weaver’s enthusiasm—and Hill’s completed script—suggest the project is gaining traction. As the Alien franchise continues its resurgence, all eyes are on whether Ripley will once again step into the fight against the xenomorph threat.
For now, fans will have to wait for the studio’s next move, but the possibility of Weaver’s return has already electrified the fandom.
