A major cloud infrastructure failure has triggered simultaneous outages across several high-profile platforms, including the Starbucks app, Minecraft, and Xbox Network. The disruption began on October 29 and continued into October 30, with users reporting issues via Downdetector and social media. The Starbucks app outage halted mobile ordering nationwide, while Microsoft services — including Azure and Microsoft 365 — experienced significant instability.
The incident follows a separate AWS outage earlier this month, raising concerns about cloud reliability across consumer and enterprise platforms.
Starbucks, Minecraft, and Xbox Network experienced outages on October 29–30, 2025, due to a Microsoft Azure cloud disruption. The issue was caused by an internal configuration error, affecting mobile ordering, gaming servers, and enterprise tools. Starbucks confirmed that in-store orders remained available, while Microsoft began restoring services using a last known good configuration. The outage was nationwide, with global implications for Microsoft-hosted platforms.
Downdetector showed spikes for all affected services, with Starbucks trending across social platforms.
Microsoft spokesperson said:
“We identified a configuration issue and have implemented a rollback to restore services.”
Starbucks posted in-store notices:
“Due to technical issues, mobile ordering is temporarily unavailable. We’re still accepting in-store orders.”
TechRadar reported:
“This is the second major cloud outage in under two weeks. We’re monitoring additional platforms for signs of impact.”
The Starbucks app outage disrupted a key revenue stream for the coffee chain, which relies heavily on mobile orders. For gamers, Minecraft and Xbox Network downtime affected multiplayer access and cloud-based saves. Enterprise users faced delays in Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook and Teams. The incident highlights the interconnected nature of cloud infrastructure and the cascading effects of single-point failures.
Retail analysts suggest Starbucks may reevaluate its cloud redundancy strategy.
