Stephen Amell Takes Responsibility for Suits LA Cancellation

Stephen Amell has openly admitted he blames himself for the cancellation of Suits LA, the short-lived spin-off of the hit USA Network series Suits. The legal drama premiered in February 2025 on NBC but ended after just one season and 13 episodes.

Amell’s Honest Reflection

Speaking on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Amell revealed he didn’t believe the show was “good enough” and accepted responsibility for its failure.

“Anything that ends not on your terms is a failure,” he said. “I think the blame rests with me. Whatever problem you have with the show—it’s my job to solve those, to smooth them over and gloss them up with some type of performance. And I didn’t do that.”

The Arrow star explained that as the lead actor, he felt it was his responsibility to elevate the material. “I didn’t find anything ultimately with Ted Black, that character, that translated, that smoothed those things over, that gave us a chance to keep going,” he admitted.

Creative Differences Behind the Scenes

Amell also noted that Suits creator Aaron Korsh had doubts about the spin-off before it aired. “(Aaron) was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to work,’” Amell recalled. He suggested that Korsh’s vision clashed with NBC’s expectations, though he avoided speculating on the details.

The Cast and Reception

Suits LA featured a strong ensemble including Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, Bryan Greenberg, and Maggie Grace. Despite the talent, the series struggled to capture the same magic as the original Suits, which ran successfully for nine seasons.

Moving Forward

At 44, Amell is now focused on his new project, The Borderline, a TV series he is currently promoting. His candid reflection on Suits LA highlights the challenges of spin-offs and the pressure actors face when leading a new franchise.
