The Golden State Warriors suffered a setback over the weekend as superstar Stephen Curry was ruled out for at least a week with a right quadriceps contusion and muscle strain. The injury occurred during the team’s 104-100 loss to the Houston Rockets, a game that remained close until the final minutes.
With 3:24 left on the clock and the score tied at 91, Curry collided under the basket with Houston’s Amen Thompson. Initially ruled an offensive foul, the call was overturned after review, awarding Curry a block but leaving him shaken.
Following the game, an MRI confirmed the diagnosis, and the Warriors announced Curry will be reevaluated in one week. The timeline suggests he will miss at least three upcoming games, with medical staff planning a progressive practice regimen before his return.
Warriors teammate Jimmy Butler expressed concern, saying, “Nobody wants to get hurt, especially him.” Butler emphasized Curry’s importance to the team’s success and urged focus on defense.
Brandin Podziemski added that the team must play more collectively to compensate for Curry’s absence, highlighting the need for stronger execution across the roster.
Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the significant impact of losing Curry, noting, “It obviously changes everything.” Kerr explained that the team will need to adjust its rotation and playing style to adapt without their leading scorer and playmaker.
The Warriors’ depth took another hit as Gary Payton II sustained a left ankle sprain during the same game. His absence further complicates the rotation, putting added responsibility on the remaining guards and wings to step up.
The Warriors now face a series of matchups without their star guard, testing the team’s resilience and adaptability. Butler stressed the importance of defensive intensity, saying, “We’re good to score, but we need to guard.”
As Golden State prepares for its next stretch of games, the team remains hopeful for Curry’s swift recovery, knowing his leadership and skill will be crucial in keeping their playoff ambitions on track.
