Strictly Come Dancing contestant La Voix will miss this weekend’s highly anticipated Blackpool specials after sustaining an injury, the BBC confirmed on Tuesday. The decision follows medical advice requiring the drag performer to rest immediately. As per competition rules, La Voix and professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec will automatically advance to next week’s show. The news arrives just days before Strictly makes its annual appearance at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Producers and judges have expressed support for La Voix as the entertainer focuses on recovery.
The BBC announced that La Voix has been “advised by doctors to rest,” ruling out participation in the Blackpool weekend specials scheduled for this Saturday. The drag star, known on stage as La Voix and offstage as Chris Dennis, has been one of the standout performers of the current Strictly series.
Strictly officials confirmed that La Voix and Aljaž Škorjanec would receive a pass to the next round, a standard procedure when contestants are medically unable to compete. The pair had prepared a large-scale routine for the Blackpool ballroom, often considered one of the show’s most important stages.
In a statement, La Voix expressed deep disappointment over the withdrawal:
“With immense sadness I have to withdraw. My heart truly breaks knowing I won’t be dancing in such an iconic venue.”
The performer added:
“Aljaž and I have worked incredibly hard. We were excited to share our routine with everyone. My focus now is on recovery.”
The Strictly spokesperson also issued support:
“We wish La Voix a speedy recovery and hope to see the pair return next week.”
Fans online responded with messages of encouragement, noting the entertainer’s sharp comedic timing and strong dance improvements throughout the series.
La Voix’s absence removes one of Strictly’s most charismatic personalities from the Blackpool live episode. Known for humorous exchanges with judges and viral social media moments, La Voix had emerged as a crowd favorite.
The Blackpool special often influences leaderboard momentum before the season’s final stretch. With La Voix sidelined, the focus shifts to the remaining six couples, who will compete without one of the series’ breakout stars on the floor.
The episode will still feature performances from Lewis Capaldi, Steps, and appearances by former finalists Ashley Roberts, Danny Mac, Jay McGuiness, and Layton Williams.
According to the BBC, La Voix is expected to resume rehearsals next week if recovery progresses as planned. Producers hope the performer will return in time for the following live show.
Meanwhile, La Voix assured fans:
“I’ll be cheering on all the amazing couples this weekend.”
Viewers can expect an official medical update before next week’s broadcast.
