Jeff Probst Talks Savannah and Rizo’s Back-to-Back Return in Survivor 50

The milestone 50th season of Survivor is almost here, and host Jeff Probst is weighing in on two familiar faces returning to the game just weeks after their last outing. Season 49 winner Savannah Louie and fourth-place finisher Rizo Velovic are competing back-to-back, a rare occurrence in the show’s history.

Back-to-Back Survivors

While past players like Rupert Boneham, Amanda Kimmel, and James Clement had months between seasons, Savannah and Rizo had only about 10 days at home before flying to Fiji. Probst admitted he hadn’t considered the toll of such a quick turnaround but noted that adrenaline seemed to fuel both the cast and crew.

Survivor 50 Energy

On the beach for the day-one marooning, Probst observed high energy levels across the board. “Whether it had been 20 years since you played, or 20 days, the adrenaline of Survivor 50 fueled everybody,” he said. The anniversary season required intense preparation, with producers juggling multiple seasons at once to deliver the biggest installment yet.

Savannah’s Dilemma

One major question was whether Savannah should reveal her Season 49 victory. With word already leaking among players, Probst said she had no choice but to come clean. “If you get caught in a lie that you won a season and you said you didn’t, you’re done,” he explained.

Savannah isn’t the only winner in the cast — Dee Valladares (Season 45) and Kyle Fraser (Season 48) also return, adding layers of strategy and baggage to the game. Probst hinted that Savannah could even use her knowledge of Rizo’s game against him.

Looking Ahead

With Savannah and Rizo back-to-back, and multiple past winners in play, Survivor 50 promises high drama and strategic fireworks. Probst summed up the effort behind the season: “We put in every single thing. We had to make this the very best season we could, and we, too, left it on the field.”

Fans will see how it all unfolds when Survivor 50 premieres February 25 on CBS.
