Tom Ackerley may be widely recognized as Margot Robbie’s husband, but he has carved out a formidable career of his own as a producer and creative force behind some of the most successful films of the past decade. As co‑founder of LuckyChap Entertainment, Ackerley has helped build a production company known for championing bold, female‑driven storytelling.
Born in Surrey, England, in 1990, Ackerley entered the entertainment world early. As a child, he appeared as an extra in the first three Harry Potter films before shifting behind the camera. He later worked as a production runner and assistant director on projects including Gambit, Rush, and Macbeth.
His career took a pivotal turn in 2013 when he served as a third assistant director on the World War II drama Suite Française. It was there that he met Margot Robbie, who was starring in the film.
Ackerley and Robbie began dating in 2014 while sharing a London flat with friends. Two years later, they married in a private ceremony in Byron Bay, Australia. Their personal relationship soon evolved into a professional partnership.
In 2014, the couple co‑founded LuckyChap Entertainment with friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara. The company quickly gained attention for its commitment to female‑focused narratives and emerging talent. LuckyChap went on to produce critically acclaimed films such as I, Tonya and Promising Young Woman, as well as the global blockbuster Barbie, which earned Ackerley an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture in 2024.
In October 2024, Ackerley and Robbie welcomed their first child, a son. The couple is now balancing new parenthood with an expanding slate of film and television projects. They currently reside in Los Angeles but maintain strong ties to both the UK and Australia.
LuckyChap continues to grow its international footprint. In late 2025, the company announced a new partnership with Mediawan to develop film and TV projects across the UK and Europe.
With upcoming titles such as Borderline and a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights on the horizon, Ackerley remains a key creative force shaping contemporary cinema alongside Robbie.
As LuckyChap’s influence expands globally, Ackerley is expected to take on an even larger role in developing prestige films and high‑profile television projects. With multiple releases slated for the coming years, his impact on modern storytelling is only set to grow.
