A new poll has revealed sharp divisions among Americans over President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a strike on Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ali Hosseini Khamenei.
The survey, conducted by Reuters/Ipsos and released on March 1, 2026, measured public opinion during the joint U.S.-Israel offensive. Results show that nearly half of respondents disapproved of the move, underscoring widespread unease about Trump’s military strategy.
Out of 1,282 participants:
Party affiliation played a significant role in shaping responses. Among Republicans, 55% supported Trump’s decision, while only 13% opposed it. In contrast, Democrats overwhelmingly rejected the strike, with 74% against and just 7% in favor.
Beyond the Iran strike, the poll highlighted broader concerns about Trump’s use of military force. 56% of Americans described his policies as “too aggressive,” while 35% said the current level of force was appropriate. Only 5% favored a more combative approach.
Republicans largely backed Trump’s military posture, with 73% satisfied. Democrats, however, expressed strong opposition, with 87% rejecting his strategy.
The Iran operation follows a series of military actions ordered by Trump’s administration in recent months, including strikes against Venezuela, Syria, and Nigeria. The escalation has fueled debate over America’s role in global conflicts and the long-term consequences of aggressive intervention.
With casualties reported and tensions escalating, the administration faces mounting scrutiny at home and abroad. As the conflict unfolds, public opinion will likely continue to shape the political narrative heading into the next phase of U.S. foreign policy.
