The music industry celebrated creativity, resilience and emotional storytelling on Saturday at Variety’s annual Hitmakers Brunch, where rising stars and industry legends gathered to reflect on their personal journeys and thank the supporters who helped shape their careers. The event recognized artists behind some of the year’s most influential and chart-topping songs.
Sabrina Carpenter, who has dominated global charts throughout 2025, was honored as Hitmaker of the Year. In an emotional speech, she shared memories of writing her first song at age 10 and encouraged young musicians to follow authenticity over trends.
“Write the music you want to listen to yourself,” Carpenter said, thanking fans and collaborators for allowing artists to be vulnerable.
Alex Warren, recognized as Hitmakers Breakthrough of the Year, delivered one of the event’s most heartfelt speeches. He spoke candidly about childhood challenges and the emotional journey behind his debut album You’ll Be Alright, Kid.
“I am enough,” Warren told the audience. “I’m here for a reason and I deserve to be here.”
BigXthaPlug earned the title Hitmakers Hip-Hop Disruptor of the Year, praising independent artists and the role of UnitedMasters in giving creators ownership of their work.
“Thank y’all for recognizing what we’re doing independently — yes independently.”
The Marías, named Anti-Hit Hitmakers of the Year, emphasized emotional artistry over commercial pressure. Lead singer María Zardoya said:
“Emotion has always taken us further than tempo ever could. Thank you so much for letting us be emotional wrecks and release whatever we want now.”
Music legend Jimmy Jam presented Producers of the Year awards to Jack Antonoff, Mustard and Sounwave, who credited early influences and community roots for their success.
Elliot Grainge, CEO of Atlantic Records, was named Executive of the Year, praising the power of artist-label partnership.
Mexican American band Fuerza Regida received Humanitarians of the Year for serving community needs through food drives and support for families affected by immigration raids.
“This award is the most important because we are for the people,” said Jesús Ortiz Paz (JOP).
Rising global sensation Rosé, who delivered the hit Apt. with Bruno Mars, described her breakout success as “a tiny bit of a mindf—.”
Actors and performers from “Kpop Demon Hunters” — Rei Ami, EJAE and Audrey Nuna — accepted honors while encouraging young creators to embrace perseverance and sisterhood.
Republic Records claimed the Hitmakers Label of the Year title, credited for supporting ten of the year’s top songs.
