Two Longtime Cast Members Depart

Netflix’s Virgin River is preparing for significant changes in Season 8. After Season 7’s premiere, which followed Mel and Jack’s wedding and their attempt to adopt, fans learned that two familiar faces will not be returning.

Marco Grazzini, who played Mike Valenzuela, and Lauren Hammersley, who portrayed Charmaine Roberts, are exiting the series. Grazzini first appeared in Season 2 before becoming a regular from Seasons 3–7. Hammersley was a central figure in the first four seasons and recurred in later installments.

Showrunner Explains the Decision

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline that Mike’s storyline has been “put on the back burner” for now, but left the door open for a return. “I love Marco and could see his character coming back in a more substantive role if the creative is right,” he said.

As for Charmaine, Smith noted her absence in Season 7 and confirmed she will not appear in Season 8. However, he expressed interest in bringing her back “at the right time” for something beyond cliffhangers and pregnancy twists.

Sara Canning, who played Victoria—Mike’s rebound love interest introduced in Season 7—will also not return.

Meanwhile, Season 8 will see the return of core cast members, including Ben Hollingsworth’s Brady. Cody Kearsley will reprise his role as Clay, Jack’s mysterious ranch hand. Recurring characters Teryl Rothery (Muriel) and John Allen Nelson (Everett, Mel’s biological father) are also set to appear.
