Travis Head was on fire yesterday at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, scoring an unbeaten 154 runs off 129 deliveries to help Australia easily surpass England’s 316-run target in the first One-Day International. Head’s 129-ball masterclass, laced with 20 fours and five sixes, helped Australia achieve the target with six overs to spare. Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten 77 off 61 deliveries provided the perfect support as the duo forged an unbroken 148-run partnership.
Earlier, England’s promising start, courtesy of Ben Duckett’s 95 and Will Jacks’ 62, was derailed by Australia’s trio of Adam Zampa, Labuschagne, and Head, who shared eight wickets to restrict the hosts to 315 in 49.4 overs.
After Mitchell Marsh’s early departure, Steven Smith and Cameron Green chipped in with 32 each, setting the stage for Head’s match-winning onslaught.
