Wyclef Jean is stepping into a new creative era with the release of his “Back From Abu Dhabi” music video — a project he describes as both a homecoming and a leap into the future. The visual, filmed in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey, juxtaposes the sleek landscapes of Abu Dhabi with the raw, familiar streets of Brick City.
The single marks a return to the lyrical and visual style that defined Wyclef’s early career, while also setting the tone for his next studio album.
The video opens with an appearance from comedian Dave Chappelle, followed by cameos from featured artists French Montana and Rick Ross. Styled in designer looks, Wyclef moves between contrasting worlds — the luxury of the Emirates and the grit of Newark — creating a visual narrative that mirrors the song’s themes.
Wyclef says the video is directly inspired by his upcoming album, Quantum Leap: Past, Present, Future, arriving in 2026.
“I’m a big fan of sci‑fi movies,” he told VIBE. “I wanted something that felt vintage, like the 90s, but also futuristic — something bigger than life.”
To execute the concept, Wyclef turned to longtime friend and acclaimed actress‑director Tasha Smith, known for her work on P‑Valley, BMF, Bel‑Air, and Mayor of Kingstown.
“Me and Tasha go way back,” Wyclef said. “She’s a visionary — a true triple threat. She understands culture, and that’s exactly what this video needed.”
Smith echoed the sentiment, calling the collaboration both personal and creatively fulfilling.
“Working with Wyclef Jean has truly been a blessing,” she said. “Directing this video was a spiritual and creative exchange. I’m grateful he trusted me to help bring this chapter of his story to the screen.”
Beyond the release of Quantum Leap, Wyclef is preparing for a milestone year. February 2026 marks:
Both anniversaries highlight Wyclef’s enduring influence across genres and generations.
With the “Back From Abu Dhabi” video now out, Wyclef is expected to roll out additional singles and visuals leading up to the release of Quantum Leap: Past, Present, Future. Fans can anticipate more collaborations, more storytelling, and a full celebration of the artist’s three‑decade legacy.
