NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has praised Bad Bunny ahead of his headline performance at the Super Bowl 60 half-time show, calling it “a great performance” in the making. The Puerto Rican superstar will take center stage at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, this Sunday, with more than 120 million viewers expected across the United States.
At 31, Bad Bunny will become the first solo male Latin artist to headline the Super Bowl half-time show. He is also expected to deliver the first set performed entirely in Spanish, marking a cultural milestone for the NFL’s biggest entertainment stage. The announcement comes just days after Bad Bunny made Grammy history, becoming the first Latin artist to win Album of the Year. His victory was accompanied by strong statements against immigration crackdowns, with the singer and fellow stars criticizing U.S. policies during the ceremony.
Speaking at a press conference in San Jose, Goodell emphasized the importance of the half-time show as a unifying cultural event.
“Bad Bunny is one of the greatest artists in the world and that’s one of the reasons we chose him,” Goodell said. “This platform is used to unite people and bring them together with creativity and talent. I think Bad Bunny understands that, and I think he’ll have a great performance.”
Bad Bunny’s outspoken stance on immigration has sparked debate among fans and critics. He previously avoided U.S. stops on his world tour, citing concerns that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents might target fans at his concerts. Asked about potential ICE activity around the Bay Area during Super Bowl weekend, Goodell reassured the public: “Security’s obviously one of the things we focus on the most. It’s a tier-one level event, involving federal, state, and local assets. We’re doing everything to make sure it’s a safe environment.”
Super Bowl week officially kicked off in San Jose, with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks arriving to meet fans and media. The championship game will decide whether the Patriots extend their record-breaking run or if the Seahawks can stop them. With Bad Bunny’s historic half-time show on the horizon, the NFL is preparing for one of the most-watched entertainment spectacles in the world.
